Help Kathy Boyd & Phoenix Rising Celebrate the Grand Opening of the Ermatinger House!
The Ermatinger House has an exciting and rich history that the City of Oregon City is proud to celebrate. The house, which was built in 1843, is a two-story Greek Revival house. This historic house not only signifies the celebration of the coin toss between Francis W. Pettygrove and Asa Lovejoy to decide the naming of Portland, but is also the one of the oldest surviving in Oregon. In addition to its architectural rarity, the house is also known as the former home of the Hudson’s Bay Company Chief Trader, Francis Ermatinger.
Kathy Boyd & Phoenix Rising has been asked to provide the music for the day. We researched the popular music of the 1840’s and you’d be surprised at the tunes you know! We’ll be playing those from 12:30 – 1:30 (with a break for a reenactment of that famous coin toss in the middle!), and then at around 2:45 will break out our “greatest hits” from the modern era until 4 p.m. or so.
Come join us and see if this coin toss keeps the name of Portland, OR or if we’ll be symbolically changing our River City to Boston, OR!
There will be vendor booths, games, activities, and fun for all ages. Make a family day of it!
