All Day on Saturday, Sept 3 and Sunday, Sept 4, the little town of Elkton will come alive with it annual Rendezvous and Fort Umpqua Days Celebration. Held at Elkton Community Education Center (15850 Hwy 38 W, Elkton, OR 97436), Fort Umpqua Days is small-town friendliness & community effort. The celebration features Fort Umpqua, with the continued progress on the buildings within the stockade, & historic-themed activities for visitors.
A 2-day bass tournament adds to the excitement. Several sponsors help fund the tournament prizes for biggest fish caught by one of the 3-person team in a boat. Elkton, situated on the main Umpqua River, is known as the “bass capital.”
The “Echoes of the Umpqua” pageant is a popular drama with 100 community members who write, compose music, perform, & direct this popular production. This year’s theme is “Journey to the Umpqua.”
A Saturday night dance & BBQ attract a crowd. A roving singing cowboy & local musical talent keep the ambiance rhythmic. The famous pie auction brings in a good sum for community projects.
