Celebrate the return of the blooms & butterflies to our area at a fun and safe outdoor event!! ECEC’s butterfly gardens and native plant park are the backdrop for this annual celebration with something for everyone. The unique and charming Garden & Art Festival includes local artisan, ‘make & take’ and community booths, live music, recycled art workshop, kids activities, and more! Take a tour of historic Fort Umpqua and learn about the life cycle of native butterflies in the ECEC flight room. Enjoy burgers from the grill on the greenhouse patio or fresh baked goods and coffee drinks from the Outpost Cafe. Find garden-themed presents in our Gift Shop and plants for your own backyard habitat in our Native Plant Nursery. As part of the Department of Education’s Summer Food Service Program, ECEC will provide nutrition to young people while school is out. The Blooms and Butterflies festival is our kick-off for the program in Elkton that will be kept going throughout summer. Adults can also purchase a meal at the event to support the BBQ fundraiser.
The festivities start with the free Kid’s Fun Run through the Carol Beckley Native Plant Park and a scenic 5K Butterfly Run / Walk along the river. Other activities get into full swing at 10 AM in the all-outdoor event area where you can shop, eat, create and enjoy live music. Dress up like a butterfly and enter the costume contest at 1pm! Prizes will be awarded for best costume in pet, child, young adult, and adult categories. All event proceeds ECEC’s programs.
