Like the best gumbos, each ingredient pops with flavor, the notes hand-pressed with raw emotion and garnished with intentional love. Whether performing a classic Stanley Brothers number such as “Highway of Regret” or their own “We Ain’t Even Friends”, Rowdy Mountain makes real music and it really moves.
At its core, Rowdy Mountain is Papa Paul Baczuk, a well traveled West Virginian and marine corps veteran, rooted in that mountain groove and high lonesome vocalizing. Ask nicely and you might get to hear some of his original songs or cockeyed Dad jokes..they don’t call him Papa Paul for nothing.. On guitar, Matt Vernon, the Italian Stallion holds down some of the most solid rhythm picking you will ever hear. Hailing from Indiana, Vernon always throws extra salt on his vocals and generally writes all of our hits. On mandolin, JT Trawick brings a little Ozark flavor to the mix.. An intent listener might even catch an air of homesick in his brogue.. be careful, it’s contagious.. Lillian Sawyer lays down some of the finest fiddling you will ever hear. Originally from Florida, Lillian studies not only the greats, but the unknowns you probably should know…then again, didn’t Einstein say that the brilliance of genius is to never reveal your sources? Most of the banjo players around here don’t really fit the sound, that is why Chainsaw Chuck, Pete Schwimmer, Brunswick Albertson and Matt Ruhland often get the call when they use a drummer. Listen to Rowdy Mountain. What do you hear?
The Show starts at 7pm. We’ve raised the cover to $7 snf every penny goes to the band.
